Wasps Rugby Discussion / Player Identification at Wasps Pre-Season
« on: July 18, 2022, 09:19:20 PM »
Hi All,

So I was watching Richard Blaze's interview on the Wasps Instagram page and he was talking about the forwards group and that he had a few players still to come but 3 new senior players (forwards) in the squad.

Now, two of them were Kiran McDonald and John Ryan but the other i can't identify and its not Koch (obvs). Also checked and its not Burger either or WHW (obvs both backs). So does anyone know who it is?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Matt Symons Retires

Sad to see Symons has announced retirement aged 32 at Quins.

Real shame as hugely talented enforcer who was a cracking player for us.

Burger Odendaal, Lions Captain signs...

Rumoured and confirmed true. Really pleased, looks like he will add a physical and consistent centre to our midfield.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / EPCR Finals Announcement
« on: April 30, 2021, 11:07:25 AM »
https://www.twickenhamstadium.com/news/match-days/twickenham-stadium-to-host-2021-epcr-finals

So not sure if anyone read the announcement this morning but there was an interesting piece at the bottom and I quote

"Plans are also advanced for the 2021/22 season with confirmation that 24 clubs - including eight representatives from each of the Gallagher Premiership, TOP 14 and Guinness PRO14 - will once again contest the Heineken Champions Cup. Further details regarding the formats and key dates for EPCR's tournaments will be communicated as soon as practicable."

So the key bit here is 8 teams...

If we can somehow overcome Bath/Leicester who are 5 and 3 points away from us respectively, then theoretically we will be in the champions cup next year.
Not the worst possibility?

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Uncapped XV/XXIII
« on: September 15, 2020, 09:46:36 AM »
So was listening to Greenwood podcast this morning and mentioned he was writing a piece on an uncapped youngsters to XV/XXIII to play in this 8 nations tournament if Eddie fancied trying something new.

So was having a think on the tube this morning and thought it would be fun to test you all, knowing how much you all love a challenge and a debate ;). So my ruling for it was that the player can't have been capped in an international, (not even 1) and must not be over age of 25. Obviously if anyone wants to offer any other rules then happy to extend /include but seemed easier to work off that. Just thinking about mine now but thought fun to get it up and see what we get.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Contract Breakdown at Tigers and Irish?

Sounds like Tigers and Irish are also in absolute state... players having issues with contracts and refusing to sign..

Veaniu, Lavinini, Ford, Talafua, Genge and Tuilagi all rumoured to be heading out.

TBH even if we don't recruit anyone else, at least we aren't in this state if true.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Guy Thompson
« on: April 05, 2020, 07:54:01 AM »
Not sure anyone has seen but just noticed an article saying that Guy was cut by Leicester just prior to the lockdown.

Personally, if he was available on a cheaper rate, i'd have him back in a heartbeat to be a squad player. Always felt we let him go a little early and seemed to be a good social component whilst he was here.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Dream Wasps 7’s Team
« on: March 28, 2020, 09:42:43 AM »
So was flicking through highlights on YouTube last night of previous seasons and obviously came across our incredible sevens teams over the years.

Got my thinking, we all have a dream XV for Wasps, but what would your dream 7’s team be?. We have had some incredible players over the years but would be interesting to see which would fit into 7s game.

So I chose 15 players... (starting 7 and 5 subs as allowed)

Thought it might be interesting and help pass what would be a bonus point home win over Worcester today 😬.

So I went for (also being 26, only really started watching a lot of wasps from 2000 onwards)

1. G.Thompson
2. T.Young
3. T. Rees
4. D.Robson
5. R. Flutey
6. C. Wade
7. C. Sirker

Subs: J. Worsley, Dallaglio, Beale, Daly, lewsey

Hard though leaving out some cracking players!
