Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Euros Will Not Be Abandoned

To be completed later - stupid methinks. Play now or cancel the lot. Play without the French!

I never post on either forum any more. Mainly I don't want to pick forum fights anymore! But I'm going to break my posting duck. Not in an attempt to single out this post, but it's one of a few posts I've seen on recent subjects around postponing competitions where there's a throwaway line of 'just cancel it'. At least one in another thread, from another poster, around the Lions, and I think it's worth a counter-view.

My response would be - it's your passion. It's many, many people's livelihood. If you cancel a tournament or tour, thousands of individuals lose money. Not Unions, players or corporations. From the programme vendors to local F&B businesses to stadium support staff, to those working within unions, broadcasters corporations to deliver these events, sponsorships and keep the money pumping into the sport. And yes, that includes the French programme sellers who have everything to lose and no stake in the decision-making if we played without the French.

Cancelling the ECC, 6 Nations or Lions Tour will bring financial hardship to hundreds if not thousands of people who are entirely reliant on these tournaments going ahead in some form. The way they end up being delivered may not be perfect, and they may not be what purist fans would want (and I totally get that). But if it keeps money going into the pockets that need it then anything is better than cancellation.

I thought Mullins made this point well in the Quins game in response to the question about a need for an announcer in an empty stadium. If it means he or she gets paid, it's a good thing.

No further posting. I hope this isn't taken either as a personal dig, or worse as trolling but as a healthy counter-debate from a different viewpoint.

Cheers. Let's hope we get some rugby to watch, and some continued Wasps momentum this coming weekend, whatever rugby that might be!

I wonder if any of us consider players might pipe up and log onto forums..

.. Number 12.. hmmm

Bath are cooking up a special toastie-warm pitch for us this evening!

Am I right in thinking that Bath RFC don't actually own the land their club sits on. I presume a lot of clubs' property or land might be owned by other entities tied up in offshore accounts but Bath's situation is slightly different. Isn't it owned by a trust set up for the benefit of the people of Bath and it restricts Bath RFC desire to develop the ground or land because of that?

Its normally a mud bath this time of year after a few games.

Wonder where they got their info.

I should imagine that Clubs/Players don't want to release such sensitive information.

It was more or less confirmed by a leading agent (Irish) on the BT programme.

I remember reading that most of the EPL players.. English or otherwise, are managed by 3 big sports management companies.. each player might have his own agent but he or she will be part of 1 of the big 3. The big 3 also manage other pro sportsmen and women.. so golf.. football.. tennis.

Combined they know pretty much what everyone on their books earn.

I'm guessing IMG are the biggest.

Didn't Itoje's agent get pinged.. ?

newsnow.co.uk

Is that a web domain designed for meteorologists or keeping up with current affairs?

I managed to watch the game last night. Sale have a massive pack and the pitch didn't really help in terms of the front rows getting their feet set.

Was it this time last year that JTA had a wake up call in the Challenge cup. He was either long-legged and falling flat on his face or being turned inside out in the scrum.

Aside from the scrum he looked unfit and running on fumes.

12 months later and he put in an 80 min shift (when was the last time a TH did the full 80.. not just for Wasps.. but any club) on a heavy old school pitch.

Not only that.. he didn't go backwards in the scrums.. he was a nuisance in the rucks and around the pitch.

His enthusiasm is genuine and infectious.

MOM for me.

Sale's pitch didn't look the best but trying to maintain it during winter is a thankless task. That being said.. I prefer their pitch to a fully plastic one

RogerE's prediction might come true. Keep on "not being able to field a matchday squad" and a club will most likely avoid relegation by accummalating 2 pts here.. 1 pt there.. whereas a club putting out a weakened matchday squad (which most clubs should be able to do with 40 snr plus academy 10 - 15) might come off worse at the end of the season.

The problem isn't how many tested positive but back-tracking and trying to see who needs to be isolated as a result of that.

I have a feeling some French and EPL clubs might now be willing to completely dismiss the euro comps. To risk putting out a team and then find out that a few members of the opposition tested positive a few days after the game might mean you're without 20 players for your next domestic league game.

The PRL/EPL had it all pretty much locked down last season (Sale aside).. but since the euro rounds have started a covid grenade seems to have gone off. Clubs accusing other clubs.. clubs travelling but not willing to play.. seemingly innocent parties coming off worse.

I'm now beginning to see the sense behind what Toulon did.

Hepburn is entitled to his opinions. I'm presuming he posted it because Exeter have been feeling a bit of heat. I don't think his opinions on wider issues (tin hat brigade or the enlightened) should be a reflection on what Exeter have just experienced with positive tests. I'm amazed that more clubs haven't had similar mini-outbreaks. I can't help but feel the euro comps aren't helping matters.

Refs/officials.. tv crews.. journalists.. club squads en masse travelling here there and everywhere.

Does the Kolpak agreement still continue next year or the year after when dealing with the UK. The major benefit (I think) is that those countries signed up don't have to go through the long-winded employment visa process. I doubt the agreement was written up with sport in mind though

I suspect Hymen is a bot.. at just over 1000 posts karma over 50.. smite just below that figure. Those numbers aren't matched in terms of volume or ratio for the rest of us. VV.. Raggs have the highest.. Neils.. Rossm.. great contributors.

Most of us have a love/hate of 90/10.. so Hymens figures .. in the words of Alan Turing.. don't compute
