Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Loss to Irish.

Don't disagree about the reffing but I don't think we can pretend that we lost because of Doyle. We butchered at least three tries and were really not clinical enough especially in the second half. Our lineout didn't function and we made poor decisions.

Yes, this was poor. The ref wasn't great but it would be wrong to pretend that was the main issue. It's too early to be overly negative but there were some alarm bells out there today. Mainly our lack of invention and clinicalness, our decision making and a general lack of any quick ball, especially off our good number of breakdowns. We must believe we'll get better otherwise it's going to be a long season.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Loss to Irish.

Doesn't seem to be a thread exclusively for this. Just back and overwhelming emotion is real disappointment. We looked lateral and inventiveless in attack. I'd like to know if someone is instructing Sopoaga to play so deep. Kibirige finished well but defensively we have a real issue on his flank. When we camped on their line in the second half the ball was terribly slow and we just employed the "if you miss a tackle we'll score" approach. With such slow ball they weren't going to miss tackles. We have issues (longstanding, not just today) at second row and 12 which are hurting us. We really need Gopperth back. A courple of really odd decisions were worrying 1) To kick for three with 7 minutes left invited them back into our half and then 2) When we won an attacking line out with nothing on the clock we threw to the front when they were never going to contest, making it easy for them to pile in at the front. To try and find positives Willis was different class and our scrum was ok.

Morning all. A few hours from setting off. Looking forward to this one and i think we'll win, possibly with a bonus point. From what I've seen we look like a tighter squad this year and appear to be in the happy position of having several international standard players who for one reason or another will spend lots of time with us.

Complete display overall but agree re Daly. His positional sense at FB is just not there yet which is why he isn't making many tackles.

Just seeing that four areas (Mill, Bakery, Clubhouse, Hospitality) will all be cashless on Sunday. Does this irritate anyone else as much as it does me. I'll be taking cash and spending it wherever takes it. I'm sure I've heard the whole arena will move to cashless soon.

Will be a double whammy when you realise there’s also nowhere to padlock your penny farthing to either! ;) :P
:) Good job I read that, was just about to set off for the stadium on it.

My opinion is that this is not much to worry about. It's a fairly niche market and someone just can't offload at the moment. NWW sums it up better than me above and I agree.

Completely valid benefits for the business. Not so much for the punter.

Great post. These issues are real and incredibly debilitating. The more awareness/support the better.

That's a great line up. Must have been close between Carr and Vailanu. Suppose Carr covers all back row for you. Looking forward to it.

I think we'll see a different player this year. The class is still there but the pressure, rotating door next to him and the newness to the league will have gone away. Looked sharp against Wuss. Hope he can just relax and play.

As a back three Watson, Daly and May is very suspect defensively. I'm a bit worried about Vunipola M's fitness as well. Perm any 2 from 4 for me in the second row - not sure Itoje is miles ahead of any of the other three. But for me this game will be won and lost around Pocock and Hooper v Underhill and Curry. If they get too much ball and put us on the back foot - especially from turnovers I think we could be porous defensively.

I find myself split on the Wade issue. Firstly I think he left in a far worse way than Daly. In contract, just after the start of the season, few other options. Had he simply gone at the end of the prior season I'd have had no issue at all. In terms of performance he was electric and should definitely have had more caps. His defence was on par with most wingers of his generation.

Watching it live it just looked like a really good pass.
