Morning Marley, Heaths, Bloke from Dorset, Neils, NWW and all Waspies from a cool and calm Guildford! Game day is once again upon us. I have the day off work today, so once the chores are done, some midweek shopping accomplished and the hound walked I will be settling down to watch our boys take on Tigers.

The Tigers fixture is always one of the first ones I look for when the list is released at the start of the season. There has always been great rivalry between us and Tigers most likely as we are two of the most successful teams in the professional era. Tigers however are experiencing what we did around 10 years previously where we came within a Tom Varndell tackle of relegation. Whilst we have Tigers turned Wasp great Tom to thank for our survival, Tigers have a disgraced Saracens to thank for there’s. It is hard to see how they would of avoided the trap door had Sarries not destroyed all they achieved by Wrays financial misdeeds. But one persons punishment is another’s opportunity and Borthwick et al can use the rest of this season to start to rebuild once more. However Tigers fans need to give Borthwick and co time, this will not happen quickly, so patience is key.

When you look at the line ups we look to hold the whip hand, but as Saturday has proven with the win at a Sarries, rugby is a team effort and is not played on paper. We need to take this Tigers team as seriously as those of Cockerills or Richards era when they had enforces like Johnson growling around the park. Do that, and with the clear team unity, talent and strength our boys are developing I hope another win is on the way!

I cannot wait for tonight! Come on you Wasps!  ;D

When I saw the Wasps team I thought it looked great, admittedly my heart then sank a little when I saw a full strength Sarries team. With a little grit, confidence and the ball going to hand then why couldn't Wasps win. I am not going to write them off, there's no shame being beaten by the current champions at full strength, but imagine a win!

I could not agree more BNTR! Let’s cheer them all the way!

A very good morning Coddy, NWW and to all Waspies from a wet and rainy Guildford! This compressed season has led to a wonderful site of midweek matches not seen since the 1980s, and i must admit i am glad to see its return. It may not last beyond the exceptional circumstances that gave it rebirth, however it may be the catalyst to future midweek games in seasons to come. If the lads in the amateur era managed to get together in time for kick off after putting in a days work in the mines/office/surgery/factory getting 2 teams to play a Tuesday/Wednesday night fixture regularly would not only be achievable, but would give supporters something to look forward to and more TV exposure to generate much needed income. Whether it happens of course is another matter. But once more on a working day i get to rise looking forward to a tough league encounter and put on my wasps boxers and socks under my scrubs before rushing home to see our lads take on the sharks.

Lee and his coaches have navigated the opening 2 rounds with aplomp! 2 wins and 10 points in the bag is no mean achievement. They selected 2 squads to do a job and to a man they did it exceptionally well. Sale on the other hand have taken 2 losses and put put arguably some of their strongest selections for those games. With the PRL edict on minutes players can play consecutively Diamond and co now have to chop and change whilst maintaining a threat and a strong hope of victory to get their season back up and running once more. This is a top 4 contest and will thus see blood and thunder from the off! Given the teams selections and form we have the edge, but no team led by Diamond goes quietly into the night, and for us to emerge victorious we must not only best their starting XV (who have some talented and senior players within) but also effectively nullify the impact of their strong bench. It can be done, but it will not be easy. However we are a team enjoying our rugby, trusting and supportive in one another, and as last week showed, patient when under pressure and behind on the scoreboard, knowing we can compete for the 80 and get a win!

I cannot wait for this game...i apologise already to my last patients and med student this afternoon as very little talk will be about ailments but all about the hallowed sport of egg chasing!

Come on you Wasps!!!  ;D

Gosh it feels so good to have these threads again! A very good morning NWW, VV, Neils, Chunks, Heathen and all Wasps from a blustery Guildford! I have had to rescue my tomato plant that got skittled in the early hours with the breeze. But breakfast is on the go, the wife is in bed as she is working nights this week, the dog is off to his doggy day care to exhaust himself playing, and I will be grabbing a coffee from a excellent local coffee shop whilst heading off to the surgery For a day of work. But once my last patient is done I will be running out of my consulting room and heading home to prep for our game against Warriors tonight.

Both teams have put out their wider squads with a smattering of experience as well. This makes the result hard to call, and form even harder to assess. However my hopes are high, If the phenomenal energy and togetherness we saw from every Wasp on and off the field last week at the Gardens is present throughout the whole squad and club (and there is no reason to think otherwise) and the style and game plan bought into by everyone then we should be in for a treat. Games like this are important for our ongoing tilt at top 6/4 but it is also a chance to see what the wider squad and emerging talents can do, the fact Worcester are doing the same just makes this encounter that much more appealing. I have no idea on the result, but I will be cheering the lads in black and gold all the way as much as those in the stands roared them on last Sunday!

Now just work to get out the way!

Come on you Wasps!!!

Chris

Morning to one and all Waspies from a grey but pleasant Guildford! Oh how I have longed for this morning! But after 163 days since the lads in black and gold ran out we are back! I can truly say that I have been looking forward greatly to this and my pre match ritual! The coffee is on the go, the rugby paper ready to be absorbed, toast with some local preserves to be eaten, and then a meet up with my mother and her dog for our Sunday walk before coming home to settle in as our lads take on Saints at the gardens.

Both teams are reflective of what a prolonged period of rest can do, virtually all to select from, and with the compressed season and shorter rest periods Lee Et al will be negotiating this is a selection designed to hit the ground running! Umaga and evergreen Gopps in the 10, 12 axis has been so effective, and I will be fascinated to see how they ignite the back line, move the forwards around the field, and also how they face off against The fantastic but more pragmatic Bigger and Francis...A truly mouthwatering battle. Wherever you look there are fantastic match ups, Harrison v Shields, Laws & Ludlum against Willis and Young’s...With the old laws around the breakdown FINALLY being applied will the absolute Jackling ability of our flankers, our ability to stay on our feet in the ruck And our desire to have a higher ball in play time gain us momentum and points to get a win? Yes many penalties have been conceded over the (re)opening weekend but the long term benefits will outweigh the current inconvenience of temporary ill discipline as players finally play to the rules officials needed to apply many many moons earlier.

Like others I will yearn for the day of open turnstiles, a steaming hot tea and half time pie whilst wrapped up in my wasps scarf and cap whilst being surrounded by fellow wasps and rugby brethren. But until that day comes (and it will!) I can wait and simply enjoy seeing our lads run out into battle once more! So with absolutely no apologies for the overuse of the capitals and exclamation marks.......

COME ON YOU WASPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D

Messy, knock ons aplenty....but loving every single second of it!!!! Cannot wait for crowds to return as it does affirm how important having your supporters with you is (and really looking forward to the snooker having crowds again for the final). However what a relief to see such positive refereeing at the scrum and breakdown at last!!! 😀😀

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: Taking the knee v Saints
« on: August 14, 2020, 08:09:36 AM »
Supporting the sentiment behind the notion that black lives should matter equally to white is ok. Supporting, by taking the knee or wearing the organisation branding of BLM is not ok. The demonstrations may have been hijacked but the organisation has not. It was created by three self confessed Marxists. Its manefesto includes defund police, end of capitalism and the following.
"We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.

We foster a queer‐affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking,"

I cannot show support for the organisation by taking a knee and Wasps support of the BLM organisation is misguided.

I am sorry if i have interpreted this incorrectly but you are against black lives matter due to them wanting a society where the community is involved in caring for each other and you also believe that homosexuals should be ostracised and treated as abnormal! Am i also to assume that you are still reeling from the suffragette movement? Perhaps you are also against social mobility and believe that privileged jobs should go to the privileged elite not those from working class backgrounds? Perhaps we should still hide our adults and children with mental and physical disabilities away in asylums in grand estates so the upper classes can picnic on the lawns and stare through the windows at them as they lay manacled to beds as a form of entertainment!? Hazah and what fun!

I assume that you know the following to inform your outrage at the western prescribed nuclear family stance;

https://www.quora.com/Why-is-BLM-committed-to-disrupting-the-Western-prescribed-nuclear-family-structure

How about your ‘defund the police’. Your statement on its own makes it sound dark, negative...lets bring down law and order!...but place it in context (there are wonderful academic pieces to find online, but this article offers a great summary):

 https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jul/02/britain-defund-the-police-black-lives-matter

Not so sinister now! And that is the problem with detractors from the BLM movement (and other such movements). They look to depower, disrupt and dissipate so to ensure privilege for those they deem worthy whilst trying to keep other souls condemned. They also twist the narrative on history to strengthen their argument. Watch ‘last week tonight with John Oliver’ on US history from his episode 3rd August 2020 and consider what history taught badly can do.

I am fully in support of Black lives matter and the clubs stance, and am truly glad we have a club that espouses equality for all.

Wasps Rugby Discussion / Re: CCFC staying in Birmingham
« on: July 25, 2020, 08:06:57 AM »
Well this time round it is clearly a case of SISU keeping the football club outside of Coventry.  The recent "fairly woolly" stadium announcement makes sense as a bit of a desperate attempt to gain support from CCFC supporters.

It will be lost revenue but also a hassle that we don't need.

I cannot disagree with this. SISU have made the decision, their “indemnity” excuse trotted out with their announcement has been blown out of the water with our reply. As much as i would like to see the football club back in the city it is now abundantly clear that we cannot work with SISU at any stage any more. It is time to completely cut ties with them.

I would like to say i am surprised by this but really i am not. SISU are not likely to change their spots and their actions this week simply prove this old adage once more. Sky Blues posters seem to think this is putting the football club in a strong position, however this is certainly not the case. Warwick Uni would do well to look at this and cut ties quickly now before any formal agreement is reached, this should serve as a huge red flag for them.
